March 2008 Dear Students, Parents, and Community Members: I am so excited to be the newly appointed principal of Puckett’s Mill Elementary. I would like to share a little bit about myself with you. I have been at R.D. Head Elementary for the past seven years, serving the last five years as Principal and two years prior to that as the school's Assistant Principal. I have taught second, third, and fifth grades at Annistown and Arcado elementary schools. I hold a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia State University, earned my Leadership Certification from the University of Georgia, then went on to obtain a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Lincoln Memorial University. I consider being given the opportunity to open Puckett’s Mill Elementary an extreme honor. Our school is projected to open with 1,179 students coming from Duncan Creek and Fort Daniel elementary schools. The construction of the building is progressing on schedule. Like you, I have watched with great anticipation as crews work to construct our new learning community. Today it is just bricks and mortar, but soon our children and teachers will breathe life into the building. I am anxious for you to be able to see the facility but need to honor and support the construction work that needs to be completed. As a result, Puckett’s Mill will not be open to the public or staff this summer. However, we plan to have a “Roam Your Home” Open House on July 20th from 1:00-3:00 p.m.. This will be a time for you to walk the building and see how truly blessed we are to be part of Gwinnett County Public Schools. I am currently in the process of hiring our staff. My number one goal is to create a school environment that is welcoming, safe and academically challenging for all of our students. We have had an abundance of high quality educators interested in joining our new school. Puckett’s Mill Elementary needs YOU!! We are fortunate to have the experiences and talent from two schools: Duncan Creek and Fort Daniel. We will be forming our PTA soon. I would love to have both schools represented on the PTA officer board as well as on our committees. This will only make Puckett’s Mill Elementary a stronger school. As adults, we will set the tone for our children in coming together as one body to support and enhance the learning of all students at Puckett’s Mill. In May, I will be meeting with the students transferring to Puckett’s Mill Elementary to discuss the school, set my expectations, and seek their input on the school mascot. Your children are encouraged to email me their ideas about our school mascot. This can be done right here on the Puckett’s Mill web site. I look forward to meeting your children and hearing their thoughts and ideas. Please continue to view our web site often as this will be one of the best sources of information. Again, I look forward to working with you and your children. Proud Principal of Puckett’s Mill, Michelle Farmer |
